The Bible lays out a clear framework for how Christians should steward their money and assets. Since we are stewards of God’s resources, it is our responsibility to know, understand, and apply what God’s Word says about Biblical financial stewardship.

The 5 Biblical Sequential Priorities of Financial Stewardship

When we say “Biblical Sequential Priorities,” what do we mean?

  • Biblical – That means that the Bible is the basis upon which these principles were developed.
  • Sequential – There is an order that the principles need to be considered and applied. Principle 2 does not come before principle 1 or #4 until we have completed #3.
  • Priorities – Each of these principles are important because they reflect part of the character and heart of God. We should seek to implement the following 5 priorities in our lives:

1. Give

Giving to the Lord is our first priority and privilege (Proverbs 3:9, Luke 6:38, Malachi 3:8-11). We give because God gave (John 3:16). Read the episode outline here.

2. Save

Because family is our second priority, we should build savings to protect our family (Proverbs 22:3, 1 Timothy 5:8). Read the episode outline here.

3. Spend

Because our choices matter, we need to be timely and honorable with our creditors (1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 13:7, Psalm 37:21). Read the episode outline here.

4. Offerings

We need to be mindful and generous toward the needs of others (Galatians 2:10, Proverbs 21:13, Hebrews 13:16). Read the episode outline here.

5. Luxuries

After we complete the first four priorities, it is right to enjoy what God has richly provided for us (1 Timothy 6:17). Read the episode outline here.

Because God cares about priorities, our personal financial stewardship should align with His priorities.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2a).
